After reclaiming a large collection of Icelandic objects from the Nordiska Museet in Stockholm, which were gathered in the late 19th century, the National Museum of Iceland opened the exhibition “Back Home Across the Sea” earlier this month.
The 800-piece collection includes precious national treasures as well as items from everyday life like riding gear, containers and tools.
When the exhibition opened on June 6, Sweden’s Minister of Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, Iceland’s Minister of Education Thorgerdur Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, Christina Mattsson, director of the Nordiska Museet, and Margrét Hallgrímsdóttir, general director of the National Museum in Iceland, gave speeches to mark the occasion.
“Back Home Across the Sea” is open until January 31, 2009.
