National Hospital of Iceland Hires New Director

Managing director of Aker University Hospital Trust in Norway Hulda Gunnlaugsdóttir has been hired as the new director for Landspítali University Hospital, the largest hospital in Iceland, as announced on Friday. She will assume her post in mid-October.

Gunnlaugsdóttir is Icelandic, but has lived in Norway for more than 20 years. “I have not lived near my family for 24 years. This provides me with an opportunity for something for which I have longed [for] – both for myself and for my children,” she said in a press release from Aker University Hospital.

“This is a special day for me – both sad and happy. There are several things that draw me towards the new position,” Gunnlaugsdóttir added. “Landspítali is a hospital with several of the same challenges [that] Aker has had – and still has. At the same time it is a[n extensive] hospital […] that delivers 75 percent of the hospital services in Iceland.”
