Meanwhile, a free music festival begins in Bjarnarfjördur in the remote Strandir region, close to Hólmavík in the West Fjords, tomorrow, as stated on strandir.is.

In the East Fjords, the bands Dikta, Fanfarlo, 200,000 Naglbítar, Of Monsters and Men and KK & Ellen will perform.

Usually around 1,000 people attend the festival, which makes the village’s inhabitants of 100 grow tenfold in one weekend, as stated on midi.is.

In Bjarnarfjördur, the solo artists Mugison, Pétur Ben and Lára Rúnars will perform, as well as the band Pollapönk. Pollapönk will be the first on stage; their concert begins at 5 pm.

The festival takes place at Hotel Laugarhóll. Outside is a campsite, a geothermal swimming pool and a natural hot spring called Gvendarlaug, named after Bishop Gudmundur “the good”.

There is also a museum on site, Kotbýli kuklarans, which provides an insight into the living standards of laymen in Strandir in ancient times.
