The music festival “Aldrei fór ég sudur” (“I never went south”) will be held in Ísafjördur in Iceland’s Westfjords at Easter. Nine foreign journalists plan to attend the festival and feature it in their publications.
The journalists write for the following UK magazines and newspapers: the Times, the Guardian, Mojo, Clash Magazine and Fly and the German print publications Focus and MusikWoche, Fréttabladid reports.
“This is a very powerful group. It includes the editor of the pop-rock department at the Times,” said Anna Hildur Hildibrandsdóttir, who works at ÚTÓN, the export office for Icelandic music.
ÚTÓN, which took part in organizing “Aldrei fór ég sudur,” and Ísafjördur town council cooperated on inviting the journalists to the festival.
The festival will also be attended by Jan Sneum from the Danish national broadcast, who has promoted Icelandic music for 30 years. ÚTÓN plans to award Sneum at the festival.
Performers at “Aldrei fór ég sudur” include the eccentric Icelandic musician Mugison, who lives in Ísafjördur.
