The traveling exhibition “Home-Away” that aims to raise awareness of multiculturalism in Iceland, opens today at the facilities of the Red Cross in Akranes, west Iceland. It is the exhibition’s first stop on its roundtrip tour of the country.
“Home-Away” first opened in the Reykjavík Museum of Photography last fall. It is curated by photographer Katrín Elvarsdóttir and cultural scientist Sigrún Sigurdardóttir and its purpose is for visitors to get to know individuals of different nationalities who all reside in Iceland.
Most of the people featured in the exhibition were forced to leave their home countries due to conflict. The exhibition provides an insight into their lives, their stories and their emotions.
The Red Cross is located on Skólabraut 25a in Akranes, which has an open house today between 2 pm and 5 pm.
