MP Claims Central Bank Director Is Retiring

MP for the Progressive Party Bjarni Hardarson claimed on his blog yesterday that Central Bank Director and former Prime Minister Davíd Oddsson is retiring. Minister of Finance Árni M. Mathiesen said he has not heard any such rumors.

On his blog, Hardarson writes that a new ministerial bill on the Central Bank is underway including an agreement that Oddsson will retire this coming winter, 24 Stundir reports.

Hardarson said this rumor has been confirmed by unaffiliated sources, who until now have proved reliable.

Neither Minister of Industry Össur Skarphédinsson nor Minister of Finance Árni M. Mathiesen say they have heard anything about a new bill on the Central Bank or about Oddsson’s retirement.

“I would find it strange if something like this were going on without me knowing,” Mathiesen said.
