MP Calls for Meeting on Party Funding

MP Margrét Trggvadóttir of The Movement submitted a letter to the parliamentary Constitutional and Supervisory Committee requesting a meeting to discuss the funding of political parties by companies.

Margrét wrote on her blog yesterday that there is a suspicion that connected companies have sponsored at least one political party in Iceland, thus circumventing the ISK 400,000 (USD 3,300, EUR 2,600) limit per legal entity on political donations, reports.

She says that it is the responsibility of the Icelandic National Audit Office and political parties to check whether donors are connected or if cross ownership exists.
