A head of a mouse found in a bag of frozen vegetables was the reason behind Reykjavík’s Environmental Department recalling a bag a vegetables named “Holiday Mix”, reports the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, RÚV. The bag was marked “Best used before November 8, 2007”.
According to an announcement from the Environmental Department the product was “found to include additional material”.
Óskar Ísfeld Sigurdsson, a manager of the Food Administration, told RÚV that “something like this is very rare”. Most of the product has already been returned. He said that it was necessary to recall the product for health reasons. The ingredients in the “Holdiay Mix” are from abroad; according to RÚV it is believed that the mouse head came to the country with the ingredients. No reports are available on what happened to the body.
The product is labeled “Íslenskt meðlæti hf.”, distributed by Eggert Kristjánsson hf. The Environmental Department told consumers that if they have purchased a “holiday mix” marked “Best before November 8th” to please to return the product to the store where it was purchased.
