Motorcyclists to Serve Free Skate-Free Fish Soup

Members of the motorcycle club Soberriders will hand out free portions of a so-called andskötusúpa, or a “non-skate soup”, in front of Landsbanki on Laugavegur in central Reykjavík today between 4 pm and 9 pm.

As the name indicates, the soup will not contain skate, an acquired delicacy traditionally served on December 23, but instead other types of fish, reports.

Soberrider member Friðþjófur Johnson said this is the fourth time the motorcycle club has organized the initiative. Passers-by are welcome to have some free soup; voluntary contributions are collected and will go towards a good cause.

The downtown is usually crowded on this last day before Christmas Eve with people shopping for last Christmas presents or simply enjoying the festive spirit.
