Most roads in highlands still closed

NFS reports that five foreigners have been rescued in western Iceland after the SUV they were driving got stuck on the track between Húsafell and Arnarvatnsheidi.

Separately, Morgunbladid reports that most highland roads are still closed. Kjölur, Kaldidalur and the road to Sigalda from Landmannalaugar are open, and also the tracks from Grímsstadir to Ásbyrgi via Hólasandur and from Kelduhverfi to Hljódaklettar.

Öxafjardarheidi is open, but it is only passable for four wheel drives and limited to 7 ton axle weight. Travellers in the Vestfirdir area are advised to use the road over Thorskafjardarheidi, since the roads across Tröllatunguheidi and Steinadalsheidi are only navigable for four wheel drives and limited to vehicles with less than 2 ton axle weight.
