Morgunbladid finds “spite” and “hate” in contemporary Icelandic zeitgeist

In its most recent Sunday edition, the daily Morgunbladid writes about the contemporary Icelandic zeitgeist in its editorial column “Reykjavíkurbréf” (Reykjavík letter).

Morgunbladid writes:

“Over the past decades an evil atmosphere of spite and hate has come about in the arena of business and politics. Why? It is difficult to tell. Perhaps because the stakes are now so fantastically high, not least in financial terms, that it is as if some people will stop at nothing to secure certain interests. In this noxious climate, business and politics are intertwined in various ways, and that presents a lethal combination. It is hard to discern on which front the situation is worse .. It could be said that in a certain respect we now live in a worse society than ever before in modern times.”
