Accommodation nights at hotels in January 2007 increased by 26 percent in total compared to January last year. Seventy-two percent of all hotel bookings this January were made by foreign tourists.
In January 2006, 40,400 nights were booked at hotels in Iceland, whereas 50,700 nights were booked the first month of this year. Morgunbladid reports.
Accommodation nights increased in all parts of the country except in north Iceland, where the number of nights booked remained the same as in January 2006.
Hotel bookings increased the most in east Iceland proportionally, where they almost tripled in January 2007 compared to January 2006.
