More Vandalism of Icelandic Nature

The word ‘ROCK’ was recently found painted on a four-meter high rock at Svínafellsjökull glacier, South Iceland.

Guide Sigurður Hrafn Stefnisson told Morgunblaðið that the vandalism was unacceptable. “This is a disgrace and should not be tolerated,” he said.

Assistant park ranger at nearby Skaftafell National Park, Guðmundur Ögmundssonar said it is not known who carried out the marking of the rock, but is likely the work of a copycat after natural treasures in North Iceland were recently found to be vandalized in a similar way. The vandalism garnered much attention in the media.

According to Guðmundur, the case has been sent to the Environment Agency of Iceland.
