More Than Nine Thousand Unemployed in Iceland

In September 2013 the labor force in Iceland amounted to 186,700 people, according to Statistics Iceland.

In September 2013 the unemployment rate was 5.2 percent compared to 4.9 percent last year, which is an increase by 0.3 percent. A total of 9,700 people were unemployed last month, 5,000 men and 4,700 women.

25.595 million men and women within the EU-28 were unemployed last August according to Eurostat. Since August 2012 the unemployment had increased by 882,000.

This amounts to an unemployment rate of 12 percent, lowest in Austria, 4.9 per cent, and the highest in Greece, 27.9 percent.

In August 2013, the unemployment rate in the United States was 7.3 percent, down from 7.4 percent in July 2013 and from 8.1 percent in August 2012.
