More Parliament Members Oppose Icesave

More and more Members of Parliament oppose the Icesave-agreement. Today, mbl.is reports that according to Bloomberg, it is likely that 34 Members of Parliament will vote against the proposition. A month ago, 33 Members of Parliament out of 63 were believed to oppose it.

Minister of Finance, Steingrímur J. Sigfússon told Bloomberg that this does not make him nervous. All the Icesave-agreements are bad and the whole matter is quite unfortunate. However, it must be resolved.

According to Bloomberg, Iceland will not receive loan payments from the IMF nor from the other Nordic countries until an agreement regarding Icesave has been reached with Britain and the Netherlands.

According to Bloomberg, all 29 members of the opposition will vote against Icesave. Five out of 14 party members of the Left Green Movement are uncertain but all Party members of the Social Democratic Alliance, 20, will vote in its favour.

According to Sigfússon, it is impossible to predict when the Icesave discussion finishes at Althingi, the third and last round of discussion taking place next week. The opposition has announced that they will filibuster which means that the discussion might take a long time. He says that Althingi will be in session until the matter has been resolved.
