Of Monsters and Men Wins Music Experiments

The young band Of Monsters and Men won the 2010 Icelandic Music Experiments on Saturday, the main platform for up-and-coming bands since 1982. The band Vulgate placed second and The Assassin of a Beautiful Brunette third.

Of Monsters and Men is a trio comprised of guitarist and vocalist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, singer Ragnar Thórhallsson, who also plays the glockenspiel and melodica, and guitarist Brynjar Leifsson, who, like Thórhallsson, also plays the glockenspiel and melodica, mbl.is reports.

The band is said to play “dreamy folk-music with a touch of pop.” Forty-one bands participated in the Music Experiments this year.

For the first time in the competition’s 27-year history there were more women than men on the seven-person jury. The move was supposed to encourage more girls to enlist and prove that “girls rock.”
