Of Monsters And Men Sell 55,000 Albums in One Week

The album My Head Is an Animal by Icelandic shooting stars, the band Of Monsters And Men, has sold 55,000 copies in the US since its release there on April 3, according to the website Hits Daily Double.

“We’re living off music; that is definitely the dream of every musician,” commented Ragnar Þórhallsson, one of the band’s singers, to Fréttablaðið.

For comparison, Madonna’s new album, which was released in the US one week earlier, sold 46,000 copies in the same period.

My Head Is an Animal currently places third on iTunes’s billboard list and ranks near the top of Amazon’s bestseller list.

“It all sounds really good but one still doesn’t quite get what these statistics mean; it’s so unbelievable,” Ragnar added. When contacted by the newspaper, he and his fellow band members were in a bus near Albany, New York.

His co-singer Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir said the vibe was good with the band. “We were really tired after the concert in New York but yesterday we got a break for a day which we spent sleeping in the hotel room.”

The band has been touring the US since March 13 and all 19 of their concerts have sold out. At the end of this month Of Monsters And Men will move on to touring in Europe after a six-day stopover in Iceland.
