Mobile phones in chocolate Easter eggs

Engagement rings, mobile phones and homemade sayings are among the things Icelanders like to place inside the chocolate Easter eggs they give to their loved ones.

Chocolate eggs are a popular Easter tradition in Iceland, usually eaten on Easter Sunday morning. Many Icelanders like to have a special chocolate egg made for someone they love and therefore contact the chocolate factories to get those wishes fulfilled.

“We get all sorts of inquiries about placing engagement rings, mobile phones and all sorts of small objects inside the Easter eggs,” said Hannes Helgason with chocolate factory Góa. He said the factory placed no extra charge on fulfilling these wishes.

Sales of Easter eggs have been going well before this Easter, according to the manufacturers.
