Missing Couple in Iceland’s Highlands Found Unharmed

Search and rescue teams found the French couple who were reported lost near Hrafntinnusker on the popular highland hiking route Laugavegur yesterday afternoon. They were found unharmed not far from the track.

The couple were reported missing after the warden at the hut in Landmannalaugar received three phone calls from people checking on the couple. According to ICE-SAR, the pair were ill-equipped for the hike and did not have a proper map.

Weather conditions had been cool with snowfall in the mountains. Rescue workers found them cold but otherwise unharmed. According to ruv.is, they had found a hot spring which helped keeping them warm.

It was the second time that the rescue services at Rangárvellir were called out yesterday. Earlier in the day, another French couple requested help after wandering off the track.

Shortly after, they found their way back to the hut at Landmannalaugar and the rescue services were notified.
