Miss Iceland 2005 Unnur Birna Vilhjálmsdóttir is not the first Miss Iceland in her family. Her mother, Unnur Steinsson won the title in 1983 and went on to be one of the top five women in the Miss World contest.
She was in the audience when her daughter won the title. She said to icelandic new web mbl.is: “We have not really figured this out yet. It has all been very strange.” The family is now on its way to London but Unnur Birna will stay in China for a while.
The mother has been a great help to her daughter. “My mother just told me to be me, not behave like I was something else.” The new Miss World is a student in the law school in Iceland and worked this summer as a policeman.
