Minister Tests Positive for Covid

Iceland’s Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Bjarni Benediktsson, has tested positive for Covid-19. He announced the news on his Facebook page last night.

“I have tested positive and will therefore self-isolate for the next ten days. It is hard to say when or where I got infected as many people around me, both in my family and at work, have recently tested positive,” the Minister said on Facebook yesterday.

Bjarni has received two jabs and a booster dose. He says that he has not yet experienced any symptoms. He stated yesterday that he hopes that he will be able to continue his work from home if his condition stays the same. Yesterday, Bjarni participated in a ministerial committee meeting, which was held remotely. Afterwards, he took a PCR test as a precautionary measure and tested positive.

Two more ministers, Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir and Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, have tested positive for COVID-19. Like Benediktsson, they are not experiencing any symptoms. The ministers will self-isolate for at least ten days from now.
