Minister to Meet with Fishermen Tonight

RÚV reports that Icelandic Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir is planning to meet the disputing parties, fishermen and representatives of the fisheries, tonight.

Icelandic fishermen have been on strike for about two months.

According to RÚV, fishermen continue to demand a tax discount on daily allowances for food. Apparently, some are optimistic that an agreement can be reached. As far as RÚV knows, having a government minister show up at a meeting with the state negotiator to help the negotiating process is unprecedented.
