Minister of Justice Ragna Árnadóttir has announced that she will support the Capital Region Police Department by “any means possible.” The department is facing severe financial difficulties in addition to lack of officers and increased workload.
“The Ministry of Justice will look for ways to support the Capital Region Police,” Árnadóttir confirmed to Fréttabladid.
Fréttabladid had reported earlier that 20 police officers, who were hired short term, would leave the department at the beginning of next month unless their job contracts were renewed.
On top of that, Chief of Police Stefán Eiríksson revealed that the additional cost for police operations in December and January is expected to amount to ISK 50 million (USD 438,000, EUR 348,000) because of the protests.
