Minister for the Environment Svandís Svavarsdóttir believes Iceland should be a world leader in adapting a new lifestyle to counteract climate change.
Svavarsdóttir, along with Prime Minister of Iceland Jóhanna Sigurdardóttir, is attending the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, which begins today, Fréttabladid reports.
“It is the single largest project which any generation has faced,” Svavarsdóttir told Morgunbladid.
“We simply have to turn things around and change our ways of living […], especially in our part of the world, which is mostly responsible for the things leading to climate change,” the minister said.
Now the discussions will be about general permits, regulations and restrictions rather than about the special position of each nation, Svavarsdóttir stated.
