Minister of Health: Limited vacation for hospital staff

Minister of Health Siv Fridleifsdóttir has announced that it is necessary to limit the summer vacation of the employees at the National Hospital of Iceland due to lack of staff.

The employees are entitled to four uninterrupted weeks of summer vacation, but some nurses and assistant nurses may have to resume work after two weeks of vacation so the quality of service at the hospital will not be put into jeopardy, ruv.is reports.

The minister also plans to encourage more people to study to become nurses and to push back the retirement age to solve the problem of the lack of staff.
