Minister of Health Launches Cycling Initiative

Minister of Health Gudlagur Thór Thórdarson launched the sixth annual initiative “Cycle to Work” yesterday by cycling from his home to Reykjavík Farm-Animal Zoo in Laugadalur valley where an assembly was organized for the occasion.

Substitute Reykjavík City Councilmember for the Social Democrats Dofri Hermannsson accompanied the minister on his cycling tour, Fréttabladid reports.

For the past five years the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland has organized a competition between companies in relation to the “Cycle to Work” initiative. Between 2003 and 2007 participants increased from 533 to 7,333.
