With one million tourists set to visit Iceland in 2014, the government plans on spending millions to protect the most visited spots.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir, signed a directive today on how and where the ISK 388 million (USD 3.4 million, EUR 2.5 million) of government money will be spent this summer, mbl.is reports.
Eighty-eight projects will receive government money this summer.
A total of ISK 15 million (USD 133,000, EUR 101,000) will go to the Geysir area, ISK 25 million (USD 221,000, EUR 163,000) to Europe’s tallest waterfall, Dettifoss, and ISK 25 million (USD 221,000, EUR 163,000) will go to the area around Svartifoss waterfall in the Skaftafell region.
