Representatives of the Midwives Association of Iceland and the state negotiation committee met yesterday to discuss midwife wages, but the meeting ended without a solution. Midwives are preparing for a strike on Thursday.
Chairman of the Midwives Association Gudlaug Einarsdóttir told Fréttabladid that she did not feel that the negotiation committee is making any efforts to solve the problem. “The gap is large. We are pessimistic about finding a solution in the next few days.”
If the negotiation committee and the Midwives Association will not reach a new wage agreement for midwives by Thursday, they will begin the first in a series of strikes. Another meeting will be held today.
