Two new environmentally friendly garbage trucks were taken into operation in Reykjavík on Tuesday.
The trucks are run by methane gas extracted from garbage, and are equipped with electric garbage bin elevators designed in Iceland, Bladid reports.
Reykjavík mayor Vilhjálmur Th. Vilhjálmsson told Fréttabladid that such trucks have much less CO2 exhaust than normal garbage trucks, and are also less noisy. They are also beautifully decorated with pictures of flowers.
Reykjavík City currently operates three methane-run trucks for garbage collection and plans to have all its garbage trucks environmentally friendly in the future.
