Message in a Bottle Returns to Owner

Fisherman Kristján Lár Gunnarsson, who lives in Stykkishólmur, West Iceland, sent message in a bottle from the islands Bjarneyjar in Breiðafjörður bay in 1995, when he was there collecting eggs with his family. This summer, Kristján happened upon the same bottle.

Kristján, who was a kid at the time, and the other children who were there, wrote down how many eggs they had collected, put the note in an Egils Appelsín soda drink plastic bottle and tossed it in the ocean, reports.

Nineteen years later, when Kristján was collecting eider down in the Breiðafjörður area, 12 km (7.5 miles) from Bjarneyjar, earlier this summer, he found some bottles which he collected and put in a garbage bag.

Three days ago, when Kristján was sorting the bottles in his garage, he noticed that there was a piece of paper inside one of the bottles. It was his message from 1995.

“It’s unbelievable, I’m speechless … I will frame the message and hang it in our house in Bjarneyjar,” Kristján said.
