Merchants Happy about Christmas Shopping, Preparing January Sales

Business was good this Christmas, according to Sigurjón Örn Thórisson, managing director of Kringlan shopping mall in Reykjavík. Many shops are now preparing for the January sales. The sales will begin on Monday, January 2, and shops will be open longer than usual or until 9 pm.

Gudrún Margrét Örnólfsdóttir, marketing director for Smáralind shopping mall in Kópavogur, told mbl.is that retailers in Smáralind are generally happy about the Christmas shopping period this year. “People started shopping earlier this year, making everything a bit more relaxed. But there was much more traffic in the last few days before Christmas, as always.” The Smáralind sales will start on January 2 and end with a “street market” in the end of January.
