Memorial for Pino: Brothers Moved by Sympathy

The brothers of Pino Becerra Bolanos, the Spanish woman who was found dead in Bleiksárgljúfur canyon last week, are to return home from Iceland today.

It is reported that they leave grateful for having experienced a great outpouring of friendship and warmth in Iceland.

A memorial ceremony for Pino was held yesterday on University of Iceland premises. According to the Spanish consulate in Reykjavík, the brothers were surprised at how many people came to offer their respects to the deceased and her family. Around 40 people attended.

Several people gave short speeches about Pino, including the brothers, the parents of her partner Ásta Stefánsdóttir, and their friends.

Vísir.is reports that Pino is remembered fondly and sorely missed by many, and obituaries have been written in Icelandic papers by her brother and by her trainer – both describing her as a beautiful person.

Pino’s brothers have been in close contact with Ásta Stefánsdóttir’s parents. She was the last to see Pino alive, as they were staying together at a summerhouse owned by Ásta’s relatives over Whitsun weekend. Nothing is known of their movements since late on Saturday 7th June and Ásta remains missing.

Police are investigating and the latest reports indicated that yet another search of the Bleiksárgljúfur canyon is being organized today.
