An information meeting about the sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas pollution from the eruption in Holuhraun in the northeastern highlands will be held at the Icelandic Met Office on Bústaðavegur 7 in Reykjavík at 2:30 pm today.
The meeting is organized by the Civil Protection Department, the Icelandic Met Office, the Environment Agency of Iceland, the Directorate of Health and the Administration of Occupational Health and Safety, as reported on vedur.is.

The purpose of the meeting is to share information about the pollution with representatives of the municipalities and the public and to encourage municipalities and their agencies to disseminate information to local residents.
A similar meeting took place in Höfn, Southeast Iceland, last week.

High levels of SO2 pollution have reached the capital area on several occasions and last week it was reported that acid rain has been found in 40 percent of samples of rainwater collected by the Icelandic Met Office in various locations around Iceland since September.
The meeting will be held in Icelandic. It’s necessary to send an email to [email protected] if you plan to attend. The meeting will also be streamed live online.
