Medals for Young Riders

This year is the first time that there are specific finals and medals for Young Riders at the World Championships for Icelandic Horses. They started out with the adults in the preliminary rounds and obviously felt better in the final of T2 (tölt on loose rein) when they were among themselves.

At 17, Gústaf Ásgeir Hinriksson from Iceland made top position in his age group in yesterday’s mixed preliminaries. His mare, Björk frá Enni, danced with magnificent movements on the track.

In the afternoon the Young Riders’ final took place. The level now was so equal that an evaluation could not have been easy for the judges.

Gústaf scored the highest points in slow tölt, his mare was calm with an engaged hindquarter. However, the judges were not as pleased with their performance of fast tempo tölt and so Gústaf and Björk frá Enni finished last in the final result.

The performance of young Dane Thomas Vilain Rörvang was noteworthy. His horse Ylur frá Hvítanesi went calmly through the test and had no reason to complain about its rider, unlike Merkur vom Birkenlund.

The horse of the new World Champion of Young Riders, Johanna Beuk, constantly indicated discomfort with its tail, perhaps because of the rider’s stiff seat or her driving her legs into its loins.
