Mayor of Reykjavík Jón Gnarr was presented with a petition yesterday signed by more than 11,600 people urging him to cancel plans to merge playschools, elementary schools and after-school centers in the capital.

“It must be demonstrated that these changes will bring about well-reasoned rationalization and that professional work methods will not be jeopardized. This cannot be guaranteed in the current plans,” the petition states, according to Fréttabladid.
The mayor thanked the group of protestors for presenting their view to him and said that all reviews on the city’s merger plans will be taken into consideration.
