The majority coalition met with the outgoing mayor yesterday evening. Hafsteinn Karlsson, who represents the Social Democrats on the town council, told that the events of the past days were reviewed at the meeting.

Guðrún will receive a formal letter of termination today or tomorrow. It hasn’t been decided who will replace her but the prospective mayor will not come from the ranks of elected council members and be “apolitical,” reports.

The reason for the decision has not been revealed but Guðríður Arnardóttir, who leads the Social Democrats in Kópavogur and chairs the town council, said it has nothing to do with “political power games,” as stated on

The Independence Party, which is in the opposition in the town council, has criticized these work methods. Guðrún has expressed her surprise at the move.
