A masked man accosted a 13-year-old boy in the southern town of Hveragerði on Wednesday, mbl.is reports, demanding that he hand over his belongings, particularly his phone.
The assailant came up behind the boy and pushed him down. However, the young man, who is said to be tall for his age, managed to turn over and get away. The boy’s dog then appeared and snapped at the thief, who fled the scene without managing to steal anything.
The boy’s family immediately called the police, but he was not able to provide a description of his attacker, as the thief had been wearing a balaclava over his face. Mbl.is interviewed the boy’s stepfather, who declined to be named, but who encouraged parents and children in Hveragerði to be on their guard when out by themselves. He reported that his stepson had, of course, been alarmed by the attack, but was mostly angry that the man had wanted to take his phone. His leg hurt afterwards, but otherwise, he wasn’t harmed and doesn’t seem to be suffering from any kind of shock.
