A group of people from the Scout Rescue Team stayed in a hut in Grímsvötn last night. They had been exercising in the area. They left the hut at noon on Saturday but an eruption started around 6 PM.

According to mbl.is Hilmar Adalsteinsson, a leader in the group, said that they are now staying a hut in Skálafellsjökull glacier. All are well.
“Some of the group stayed in Grímsvötn and left at noon,” Adalsteinsson said. He said that the group noticed nothing unusual. He said that a group that climbed Hrútafellstindar in the southern part of Vatnajökull glacier felt that they smelled sulfur this morning.
More than one hundred people climbed Öræfajökull, Iceland’s highest peak on Saturday. They saw nothing unusual.
