Man stuck on car roof in river rescued

A young man was rescued from the roof of his jeep in the river Gilsá near Thórsmörk National Park in south Iceland on Saturday. The man had tried to cross the river in the wrong place and his vehicle sank and drifted downriver.

The jeep came to a halt after drifting a few meters downriver. The emergency service Dagrenning was notified about the driver on the roof, who could tell them his exact location via his radio telephone, Morgunbladid reports.

The man was brought onto dry land unharmed. The emergency service later managed to tow his vehicle out of the river.
