A 37-year-old male was sentenced to two years in prison at Reykjavík District Court yesterday for sexual violations against his 14-year-old nanny while she was watching his children. The victim was awarded ISK 750,000 (USD 11,000, EUR 8,000) in damages.
The man must also pay ISK 1 million (USD 15,000, EUR 10,000) in legal costs, Morgunbladid reports.
The man asked the girl to watch his children in May of last year. They live in the same apartment complex. The girl invited two of her friends to join her and later other teenagers showed up. They were drinking. When the man returned to his apartment at 6 am, only two girls were left.
One of them left for the store and returned after about 30 minutes, but in the meantime the man had felt the other girl up, undressed her and himself.
The girl claimed she had been too frightened to do anything until the man tried to have sexual intercourse with her. Then she pushed him away and asked whether he was aware that she was only 14-years-old, dressed quickly and left the apartment.
The man maintained his innocence, but the court believed the girl’s account of events and concluded the man had taken advantage of the situation. The court ruled the man be convicted of rape.
