Man Sentenced to Five Years in Prison for Assault

By Iceland Review

A man approaching 30 has been sentenced to five years in prison for attempted murder. The convict attacked another man with a knife in central Reykjavík in August, stabbing him in his back and arm.

The victim suffered severe injuries and required extensive medical assistance. As a consequence of the assault, the man has also suffered from panic attacks, Fréttabladid reports.

The assaulter has to pay ISK 830,000 (USD 6,356, EUR 4,972) in compensation to the victim.

At first the accused would not confess to the crime, but then admitted that he had attacked the other man because he had bumped into him and in the process caused damage to his friend’s car.

The convict explained he had therefore chased the other man and stabbed him with a pocketknife, which he then threw into a garbage can.
