Man Sentenced to Custody for Knife Stabbing

The Supreme Court of Iceland confirmed yesterday a custody sentence of a man suspected of having stabbed another man in the neck with a knife outside a nightclub on Tryggvagata in central Reykjavík on Friday night.

The victim is recovering, but according to a report from the hospital where he was treated, the attack could easily have led to a life-threatening situation, crippled the man for life or caused his death, 24 Stundir reports.

Considering the seriousness of the crime, the jury concluded that if found guilty, the attacker may face up to 16 years in prison. The suspect will remain in custody until July 18.
