Man May Have Drunk Drain Cleaner by Mistake

A man who was put into custody due to suspicion of having forced or tricked another man into drinking drain cleaner during a party last weekend, has been released. It is now believed that the man may have drunk the corrosive fluid by mistake.

The man who drank the fluid, who is around 40, was not able to explain what had happened before he lost consciousness. He is now at the intensive care unit at the Landspítali hospital in Reykjavík and his condition is critical, reports.

Police have questioned most of the people who were at the party. According to Fridrik Smári Björgvinsson, senior officer at the Capital Region Police investigative department, there is nothing that indicates that the man was forced to drink the drain cleaner.

Another man who was arrested in this case has also been released. The investigation is ongoing.
