Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

A 32 year old man died when he drove his motorbike off the road near Krýsuvík in southwest Iceland yesterday afternoon.

The accident happened at the junction of the roads to Krýsuvík and to Bláfjöll on Reykjanes Peninsula. The motorist is believed to have lost control of his bike, which went off the road into rough lava terrain.

He suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital in Reykjavík. According to, an investigation is ongoing, where the speed of the motorist will be established and witnesses questioned.

This is the tenth fatal traffic accident in Iceland this year. In 2006, 31 people died in traffic accidents.
