Man Jumps Between Rocks on Waterfall’s Edge

Eyewitnesses spotted a man who had ignored closures and was jumping between rocks on the edge of Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, yesterday. Conditions in Northeast Iceland, where Dettifoss is located, were stormy at the time.

“It was shocking. People who were there were stunned that the man was down there because if he had tripped he would have died. It’s irresponsible and careless not to respect the closures,” Ingi Þór Stefánsson, who caught a picture of the man while showing the waterfall to a German friend, commented to

“I have no idea whether he was Icelandic or foreign. The individual obviously surpassed the closures—otherwise he wouldn’t have gotten to that location,” Ingi added.

“It was freezing and stormy and I observed the man for a while. He was jumping between rocks and moving his camera so I had become very concerned,” he concluded.
