The Reykjavík District Court sentenced Gudmundur Helgi Sigurdsson to three years of imprisonment for rape yesterday; he is to pay the victim ISK 1.500.000 (USD 12.800 or EUR 9000) in damages.

Sigurdsson has been held in custody since his arrest; the crime was committed at a place of residence in April of this year, ruv.is reports.
Sigurdsson used violence to intimidate the victim, forced her to perform various sex acts, as well as forcing her to have intercourse with another man.
The second man is thought to have participated out of fear.
