A man in his early forties was found dead in his apartment in Reykjavík on Friday. It’s believed that he may have been dead for two months. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
The man’s apartment is located in the basement of an apartment complex with no other living space next to it, only storage rooms. When the man’s neighbors noticed a smell coming from his apartment and that mail was piling up, they contacted his relatives, Stöð 2 reports.
The man’s family called the police after arriving at the scene. They explained that the man had been a loner so there was nothing unusual about him not having contacted them for such a long time.
The apartment complex’ residents were shocked. They described the man as being friendly, even though he mostly kept to himself.
The police stated that cases like these are rare.
