Man Found Dead in Harbor After Extensive Search

A man who was reported missing in Reykjavík in the early hours of Thursday morning was found dead in the ocean off the harbor area in Hafnarfjördur yesterday evening after an extensive search. The man had gone out for a walk on Wednesday evening but never returned.

The man was an English citizen who resided in Spain but had an Icelandic partner. They had been living in a camper in Reykjavík. The Englishman knew the city well; he had been there a few times, Morgunbladid reports.

Approximately 100 search and rescue team members searched the district carefully for 12 hours where the man was last seen.

The public was asked to help out by paying attention to their immediate surroundings in case the man had become exhausted and looked for shelter. He suffered from a lung disease and couldn’t walk far without oxygen.

Around 7 pm yesterday evening police received a report of a body in the harbor in Hafnarfjördur and it turned out to be the missing Englishman.

It is unclear how he ended up in the ocean 9.6 kilometers away from where he was last seen but police do not believe any crime has been committed. The case is under investigation.
