Police closed the area to traffic, and ambulances, as well as equipment cars from the Reykjavík Fire Department, were sent to the location, RÚV reports. There were three people in the cars, and cutters had to be used to release them.
All three were transported to hospital, where the most seriously injured person passed away. The other two people were not seriously injured. No information is available on how the accident occurred.
