A man in his forties died after his house in Grundarfjörður, West Iceland, caught fire on Wednesday night. Neighbors reported smoke coming from the building shortly before 3 am and firefighters were immediately sent to the scene.
When they arrived they found that fire was raging inside the house and smoke divers were sent in. They found the man and carried him outside but a physician announced his death after attempts to resuscitate him proved unsuccessful, visir.is reports.
There are two apartments in the three-story building but the other apartment was vacant. It took firefighters a long time to extinguish the fire and the house is severely damaged. Police are investigating the scene of the fire.
